Flying Without an Operations Manager

More freedom. More possibilities.

Ganderkesee Airfield is taking a new approach: from now on, flight operations are also possible for everyone without an operations manager present — safely, flexibly, and with an eye toward the future. This new concept allows you to take off and land around the clock*, even when nobody is available in the tower. As before, responsibility for ensuring safe operations rests with you as the pilot.

Opening Hours

Open 24/7. The tower is normally staffed from 09:00 to 17:00 UTC.

Any deviations will be published by NOTAM.

Refueling

Ganderkesee Airfield has an AVGAS, Jet A-1, and MOGAS fuel station available.

Refueling is possible both when an operations manager is present in the tower and in self-service mode, depending on the time of day and whether the tower is staffed.

Refueling During Staffed Hours

When the tower is staffed, authorization and payment are handled as usual by the tower staff.

You can pay by cash, EC card, or by invoice (by prior arrangement). Staff will be happy to assist you with refueling if required.

Self-Service Refueling (Without an Operations Manager)

When the tower is unstaffed, the fuel station is currently available exclusively to pilots with a valid Ganderkesee Airfield fuel card.

This fuel card allows you to refuel independently around the clock. The process is simple:

  1. Hold the card up to the fuel dispenser
  2. Select the type of fuel
  3. Start the refueling process

Visiting/external pilots can request fuel by prior arrangement (at least 24 hours in advance) via email.

Applying for a Fuel Card

You can easily apply for your personal fuel card:

Pilot Controlled Lighting – Training Tool

At Ganderkesee Airfield, the Pilot Controlled Lighting (PCL) procedure will be introduced in the future. This tool is intended to help you familiarize yourself with the procedure in advance.

With PCL, the lighting is activated by pressing the Push-to-Talk (PTT) button several times at a defined interval. You can practice this exact procedure here under realistic conditions.

Please note:
The procedure has not yet been approved for operational use. For night flights, the presence of an operations manager is still required.

Further information can be found in the FAQ and the FBO.
